Dear Reader,
The following are my rationale behind specific elements of the website
Homepage
The objective of the homepage is to draw the reader in. I pose a question for the reader to think about directly under the title of the website and have an eye-catching header underneath the tabs with bolded and italicized font. The image is to primarily demonstrate how many Asian American students slave away at their studies, as shown by her studying with a grimace on her face. The paragraph under the picture is meant to be concise, give a slight amount of context, and pose more rhetorical questions for the reader to think about.
Breakdown of topics and subtopics
I formatted my topics similar to the example website Mrs. Baker gave us in class, giving background information, the actual issue at hand, future steps, and a resources page their own tabs with subtabs going into more detail. For background information, I divided it into defining affirmative action as a whole, and in the second subtab, gave context to Asian Americans population rise and status in America. This leads into the current issues tab, where I discuss the actual problem itself and have a subtab devoted to statistics for a more logos based argument. After some consideration, I decided to put the opinions of Asian Americans as another tab, because it would help transition into my solutions by claiming that affirmative action should not be done away with as a whole. The future steps tab analyzes two different ways that affirmative action can be tweaked to help all minority races. Finally, there is a “Connect with the AAARCC” tab that links to the AAARCC’s homepage and Facebook for those interested in other relevant information. My tabs are intended to follow the format of my editorial but is more bite-sized in terms of content.
Style and Organization
The idea of bite snack meal was a format utilized on several of my pages, but I also attempted to not make the structure of the website too redundant by utilizing bullet points, placing pictures in different parts of the page, and utilizing block quotes. With the exception of the interview, I attempted to keep paragraphs relatively short, because if I had left it in large chunks the reader would likely turn away from the page. The color schematic is black and white to follow a more professional look, and search bars and twitter feeds are included to make the website feel more full without being cluttered.
